Literature Text

Childhood was a time of smiles and playground screams.
Or so the stories and movies proclaimed.
But I was a child in the eyes of society.
Small and Fragile;
What they don't know,
Cant hurt them was my philosophy.

I wasn't like the little girl next door
or the one on the slide.
I was different;
I am different.
Growth measured by struggles and troubles.
Not by time and strength.

Perfection too far from reach
Almost broke myself in half trying to succeed.
Alone and confused.
Little girl with big fears.
Little girl with big responsibilities.
Facades became my best friend.

My mirror decieved me, and the many minds of others.
I was happy, intelligent to say the least.
Perfect in the eyes of those around.
Struggles hidden deep within.
I was good at this game;
I learned early how to paint my smile perfect;

My response to the poem: Because I could not stop for death -Emily Dickinson.

I love your poem, so many times in childhood we think there is no one will be no one could never be no one who understands me and you wrote it perfectly....
